Frequently Asked
questions
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Why did I receive two separate bills from Tucson Gastroenterology for my procedure?
One bill is from Tucson Gastroenterology Institute which is the facility where you had your procedure and the other is from Tucson Gastroenterology Specialists which is for the services provided by your doctor. They are separate and both due if you receive statements. Depending on your individual insurance plan, you may receive no statements or up to two statements from Tucson Gastroenterology.
-
My insurance plan said my colonoscopy would be covered at a 100% if it’s for “screening”.
Colonoscopy benefits very drastically from one insurance carrier to the other and have different levels of benefits based on the indication for the colonoscopy. We provide the service and submit diagnosis codes to your insurance carrier based on the indication &/or findings. Your insurance carrier makes the determination of these benefits, not Tucson Gastroenterology. It would be inappropriate for Tucson Gastroenterology to submit inaccurate diagnosis codes to your insurance plan to facilitate payment.
-
How long will my procedure take?
After you have completed the check-in process, you should plan on being at our center 1½ -2 hours. We ask that your driver remain in the event that you are finished sooner and ready to be discharged.
-
Why can’t I drive myself home after my procedure?
During your procedure you will be given medication to help you achieve a “light”
sleep. This medication could impair your ability to drive safely. If you are unable to have a driver take you home, we can call a taxi for you. For your safety, we cannot allow you to take the bus home.
-
If there is an emergency, what hospitals do your doctors have privileges at?
Our providers have privileges exclusively at Tucson Medical Center.
-
Can I eat or drink anything after my procedure?
It is okay to eat and drink after your procedure. There is a slight chance that the anesthesia may upset your stomach, so we always recommend a light meal. We also recommend no alcohol until the following day.
-
Why do I need to bring my insurance card(s) and photo identification to each visit?
Photo identification is requested to protect your identity and makes our office compliant with
federal Red Flags Ruling. To ensure that we bill your insurance correctly, we verify your insurance at each visit.
